What does botox do?
Botox injections weakens or paralyze certain muscles or block certain nerves. Depending on the treatment, the effects can last from three to twelve months. Botox Cosmetic is an injectable wrinkle and muscle relaxer. Botox Cosmetic temporarily paralyzes muscle using botulinum toxin type A, specifically OnabotulinumtoxinA. This reduces the appearance and severity of facial wrinkles. Botox is minimally invasive. Botox is safe and effective for wrinkles and fine lines around the eyes. It can also be used between the eyes on the forehead.
What are most common side effects?
Most common side effects include pain, swelling, and bruising at injection sites. Flu-like symptoms, headaches, and upset stomach could also be possible. Drooping eyelids may be caused by injections to the face. Botox should not be used if you're pregnant or breastfeeding.
When was Botox Approved?
Botox was approved by the FDA in 1989 for the treatment blepharospasms and other eye muscle issues. Botox was approved by the FDA in 2002 as a cosmetic treatment to treat moderate to severe frown lines between eyebrows. The FDA approved Botox in 2013 for the treatment of wrinkles around the corners (crow's feet).
Is botox safe?
Botox is a safe and effective treatment that can reduce forehead wrinkles according to a clinical study from 2016. Botox and other similar medications to combat wrinkles were used in over 4.5 million procedures in 2016. This is the most popular nonsurgical cosmetic procedure in America.
Botox Cosmetic is non-surgical
Botox Cosmetic is a non-surgical, in-office treatment. It requires very little preparation. Before you have your procedure, it is important to let your provider know about any allergies or other medical conditions. Your treatment provider should be a licensed doctor, a physician assistant or a nurse.
What should I know after treatment?
Avoid applying pressure or rubbing to the area being treated. Botox Cosmetic can spread to other parts of the body by these actions. This could adversely affect your results. Do not lie down or bend over while you have Botox injected between your brows. This could cause Botox to slip below the orbital rim. This could lead to a drooping of the eyelids.
After treatment, there is very little or no downtime. In most cases, you can resume your normal activities immediately.
It is important to be aware of possible improvements and to have realistic expectations. You can expect to see results within 1-2 days after treatment. Botox Cosmetic can last up to four months. Botox Cosmetic can also prevent fine lines from returning by relaxing the muscles.
Does my insurance cover botox?
Botox Cosmetic can be an elective procedure. Cosmetic procedures are not covered by insurance.
